Celebrating Pride: enabling everyone to thrive

As we protect what matters most at Gallagher, we aspire to create an inclusive culture where everyone can be themselves at work. This June, Gallagher is celebrating Pride Month to amplify the message that everyone should be enabled to be their authentic selves and thrive in the workplace. Pride Month recognises the LGBTQIA+ community - those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, or asexual.
Hennie Lombard, Technical Business Development Manager for Security, thinks Gallagher is doing well in this space.
“When I did a technician training course through Gallagher while I was searching for a job, I felt the family culture instantly - the environment was amazing. I thought, this is what I want! When I went back home that night, I started looking for opportunities at Gallagher straight away.
“14 years later, I still feel that supportive culture every day. I hid that I was gay for years - it was taboo in society back then with a perception that gay people were different. But, when I brought my partner along to a work conference and came out to my team, I received so much support.
“I haven’t felt anyone look down at me because of my sexuality once in the decade I’ve been at Gallagher. The freedom to be myself is like nothing else - not having to hide that piece of myself enables me to be my best self at work. Gallagher’s family environment and support systems create an inclusive environment where I am supported to thrive.”
Kristin Robinson, Purchasing Manager in Operations, has had a similar experience of support at Gallagher.
“11 months into my role, I have never had anyone disrespect me for being who I am. I feel comfortable not to hide any part of myself, as the culture of our team is so inclusive.
“I encourage people to ask questions if they’re unsure about something. If you don’t know the difference between terms or current LGBTQIA-related issues, don’t be afraid to respectfully ask! Increased understanding of our diversity encourages inclusivity.”
Pride isn’t just for June. Celebrating and amplifying all aspects of diversity and inclusion is something we should do all year round.
